  • How Huawei partners with international companies and back-doored its way into North American national defence and border security systems.

    • Thread.

    • 1/

  • François-Philippe Champagne recently travelled to visit Thales – a technology company that provides cybersecurity solutions and national defence systems globally to many countries, including Canada.

  • To give you an idea of what security the company provides, here is one contract granted in 2015 to Thales to provide Long Range IFF interrogators to the Canadian Navy’s Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships. They are used to identify friendly aircraft vs foe.

  • What is the problem? Partnered with Thales, and providing defence for North America, is none other than Huawei.

  • Does this sound like a company that we want to be awarding national defence contracts to? I think not, and yet we do, in alarming quantity. Thales is also a registered government lobbyist. Who do they lobby?

  • We have been pretty good to Thales’ Canadian Division. How good? About $437 million good, since 2009.

  • Thales was also awarded a support and refit contract for Arctic and Offshore Patrol/Joint Support Ships, known as AJISS. They do seem interested in the north. Someone else is too - and is constructing nuclear icebreakers designed like naval carriers.

  • That’s not all though. It gets better.

    • Thales, who collaborates with Huawei, also has access to NORAD – the North American Aerospace Defence Command air sovereignty and protection system for Northern America.

  • Also extremely alarming is that most of these contracts, while open to ‘bidding’ and transparently displayed on the government’s website, appear to have no bids. In fact, I haven’t found one yet, but there are hundreds of them. What are the odds?

  • Who is awarding these defence contracts to Huawei-partnered Thales? Well, by and large, former Minster of Public Services and Procurement and current Minister of National Defence, Anita Anand.

  • Thales is also partnered with Bloombase, providing cybersecurity and “secure” storage. Bloombase is an intelligent storage firewall company. Their tech is designed to be compatible with Thales’.

  • Bloombase was recently awarded a contract to provide encrypted security services for CBSA – our Canadian Border Services Agency.

  • What Bloombase (all the while collaborating with Thales on data encryption and providing firewall services and national defence strategies to government entities) doesn’t mention on their website is that they are partnered with Huawei as well.

    • 13/

  • Or that Bloombase’s firewall encryption storage is purposefully designed to be fully compatible with Huawei components.

  • Bloombase, providing encryption for CBSA, even conveniently provides a diagram of how to hook up their technology to Huawei storage.

  • And we are worried about Huawei 5G? Seriously? These companies are openly collaborating with Huawei and sharing intellectual property, technology, encryption security, and are providing our government with firewall tech.

    • Is CSIS asleep at the wheel?

    • 16/

  • This a coordinated Trojan-horsing of our national defence systems, and I can't possibly be the only one who knows about it.

    • It's good to be back.

    • End.

  • ‘Minister.’ One of these days I’ll get through a big thread with zero errors.
